About Acrobat PDF

Adobe® Acrobat® PDF (Portable Document Format) is a software standard to view and print documents reliably across a variety of computer platforms.To open PDF documents, the Adobe® Reader® - version 5 or higher - must be installed on your computer system. See the link in the left column for more information about downloading the Adobe PDF Reader.

Here are a few tips for using PDF documents:

PDF Window

A PDF document appears within a window that includes - a toolbar at the top of the screen - tabs along the left side - and buttons at the bottom of the window.

To NAVIGATE a document, you can use:

Pages - located in left tabs - Click to choose a page. A rectangle highlights the page or the section of the page you are viewing. Change the rectangle size by dragging its corner, or move it by dragging its edges to change your page view.

Bookmarks - located in left tabs - Click to choose a page. Bookmarks with subtopics can be expanded or collapsed by clicking the arrow to left of bookmark.

Arrow Buttons - located in upper toolbar - Click to move through pages sequentially, or by order of viewing.

Arrow Keys - located on keyboard - Click to move though pages sequentially, or up and down.

To VIEW a page in different ways, you can use:

View Buttons - located in upper toolbar - They look like small pages. Click them to view page in different sizes: Actual Size, Fit Page, or Fit Width.

Magnifying Glass - located in upper toolbar - Click "plus" magnifying glass to zoom in. Draw a rectangle on the page to zoom to that area. Choose the "minus" magnifying glass, or press Option (Mac OS) or Ctrl (Windows), and click to zoom out.

Magnifying Buttons - located in upper toolbar - They are a small "plus" and "minus" sign. Click to zoom in or out. Type a specific percent in the value box between the buttons - or click arrow next to value box to choose a percent.

Layout Buttons - located in upper toolbar - They look like small pages. Click them to view: One page at a time. Continuous pages. Multiple pages at one time.

To SAVE a document, you can use:

Save Button - Located in upper toolbar. It looks like a small computer disk. Click this button to save document to your computer.

To PRINT a document, you can use:

Print Button - Located in upper toolbar. It looks like a small computer printer. Click this button to print document.
